Jerry Magnuson’s “Magnitude”—a sleek and stylish 1932 Muroc roadster—was crowned the 2010 Goodguys Street Rod d’Elegance last weekend at the 10th Del Mar Nationals in Del Mar, California.
The elegant roadster was hand-formed by Marcel and designed by Chip Foose. It features an LS-1 Chevy with an intercooled Magnacharger (not surprising, being that Jerry Magnuson is the owner and CEO of Magnuson Products!)
Other features include a Tremec 6-speed transmission, a Kugel chassis, chopped Carson top, DuVall windshield, hidden headlights, and a custom dash by Magnuson. The inside of the car features upholstery by Jim Griffin, tunneled seats and countless other subtle tricks. The paint is two-tone butterscotch pearl with champagne metallic.
In traditional So-Cal hot rod fashion, the car features one-off, Foose-designed “bigs and littles”— 7×7-inch in front and 20×10-inch in back, wrapped in Scorpion Zero rubber.
According to Goodguys, the field of street rods gathered for the event in Del Mar was the finest crop seen in years. It was a national lineup featuring a five-pack of elegant pre-1949 vehicles.
The other top five finalist awards went to
- Brent Scheider of Pleasanton, CA for his 1937 Ford Cabriolet
- Harold and Rhea Schrader of Franklin Lakes, NJ for their 1935 Ford
- Bill West of Terry, CA for his 1939 LaSalle
- Sean Wilson of Alpine, CA for his 1937 Ford
For winning the Street Rod d’Elegance award, Magnuson will be presented with a custom toolbox from Snap-On Tools that is wrapped with a vinyl picture of his car. He was also presented with a billet aluminum plate designed and machined by Goodguys and Pleasanton Tool. The car will be featured in full color in an upcoming issue of the Goodguys Gazette.
