Tammy Ray of Dahlonega, Georgia, and her 1933 Ford Phaeton, named “Gold Digger,” was recipient of the 2010 Ridler Award. Ray was named the winner during the 58th Annual Murray’s-O’Reilly Auto Parts Autorama in Detroit.
“Gold Digger” was built by Ted Thomas of T & T Customs of Canton, Georgia, and features Pirelli P Zero Nero tires, Foose wheels, PPG Paint, Dakota Digital gauges and a custom interior by M&M Interiors.
It was the first time in the 58-year history of the Autorama that the award went to a sole female recipient. Ray received the award, as well as a custom jacket and a check for $10,000 for her win.
Ray, owner of a gold mine in Georgia, added gold nuggets to the engine and wheels and named the hot rod “Gold Digger.”
Created in 1960, the Ridler Award (named after Don Ridler) is presented to the most outstanding custom car premiered at Autorama.
