Editor’s Corner: A Day in the Sun at Goodguys’ Del Mar Nationals

The Goodguys Del Mar Nationals is one of my favorite car shows of the year to attend. Not only are you close enough to the beach that you can smell the ocean air, but there’s so much to see and do. This year’s show, which took place last weekend, offered a ton of great vendors (many of which brought a car or two to showcase in their booth), as well as the annual Editor’s Shootout Autocross. To add to the “beach” theme, there was even a special “Good Wood” section set aside for woodies.

Also worth mentioning was the unique collection of restored 1960s dragster in the special “Nitro Thunderfest” section. We were on-hand to watch as Bobby Hanson’s “Wynn’s Spoiler” was (very loudly) fired up for the crowd. The fans loved it and it was great to see these vintage drag cars on display.

The level of cars on display really impressed us; we saw a lot of “odd-ball” vehicles, along with a ton of Bel Airs, classic trucks and woodies. The Del Mar Nationals, as always, was a great day in the sun.

Below are just a few of the cool cars we photographed last weekend at the show. Be sure to check back for a photo gallery featuring some of the amazing classic trucks we saw.
