Goodguys Releases Photographic Yearbook of its 2010 Event Season

The 2011 Goodguys Yearbook is now available for purchase. The glossy, full-color yearbook features 172 pages full of photographs from the 2010 Goodguys show event season, including many never-before-published images.
The Yearbook was designed in-house by the art department of the Goodguys Gazette. It contains coverage of each major award-winning vehicle from the 2010 season, including all of the “Terrific 12” winners. The yearbook features profiles of the Goodguys 2010 Woman of the Year, Janeen Webb, as well as Goodguys Trendsetter award winner Kurt Ukasik.
“It’s a spectacular photographic retrospective of the 2010 Goodguys event season, bringing all23 events to life in full, blazing color,” Goodguys representatives said in a press release.
A special gallery section features a layout of over 50 hand-picked artistic images from events held across the country.

1935 Ford Pickup & 1956 Olds 88 Named “Homebuilt Heaven” Winners

Goodguys has announced its two national winners for the Speedway Motors “Homebuilt Heaven” competition. The “Homebuilt Heaven” awards highlight rods, customs, classics and muscle cars that have been hand-built by their owners at home, in the garage, according to the Goodguys website.
The competition was divided into two categories: Homebuilt Heaven (for contemporary street rods, customs or trucks through 1972 vintage), and Traditional Homebuilt Heaven (for traditional pre-1973 hot rods, trucks or customs.)
The 2010 Homebuilt Heaven national winning car was Bob and Mitzi Provin’s pearl white 1956 Olds 88. The car features a 412 cid Olds motor, a custom beige interior, custom console, wide whites with Olds Fiesta hubcaps and plenty of chrome trim. The Newton, Iowa, couple’s car was originally chosen as a finalist at the Southwest Nationals in Scottsdale.

Voting for the 2010 Speedway Motors“Homebuilt Heaven” and “Traditional Homebuilt Heaven” National Champions will end on Monday, Jan. 31, Goodguys has announced.
The “Homebuilt Heaven” award highlights rods, customs, classics and muscle cars that have been hand-built by their owners at home, in the garage, according to the Goodguys website. The “Traditional Homebuilt Heaven” award also highlights rods and customs that were hand-built by their owners at home, in the garage, but focuses more on traditionally styled vehicles.

This weekend, a number of organizations, car clubs and businesses around the country are hosting car shows that give retailers the opportunity to show off builds, connect with new customers and support community organizations that are helping out the less-fortunate during the holidays. The Classic Chevy Car Show will be held Saturday at the Challenger Space Center in Peoria, Arizona. A children’s charity toy run will be held during the event and $1,000 will be donated to Saint Mary’s Food Bank. Other activities include a story-time reading of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,” ornament making, the “Understanding the Nature of Light” show and extreme space weather demonstrations. O’Reilly Auto Parts’ AutoRama takes place Thursday through Sunday in Houston. The event will feature a number of notable cars on display, including “Downtown Brown,” the Goodguys’ Rod of the Year, as well as a special section of rare cobras showcased in the Snake Pit. The event will include a swap meet, Toyarama, arts and crafts vendors, live music and a car corral. Autorama will also host the Summit Racing Equipment Show Car Series Championship Finals, the Autorama Burn Out Competition, Cacklefest, the Anger Management Street Extreme Freestyle Show and the Lonestar RC Nationals. Petersen Museum to Host Garage Sale & Swap Meet

The Petersen Automotive Museum of Los Angeles has announced that it will host a Garage Sale and Swap Meet on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010. Filling the upper floors of the Petersen Museum’s parking structure, the event will feature a mix of items from the Museum, along with a cars-for-sale corral and vendor area, according to the Museum’s website.
Vendors who are looking to selle cars, motorcycles, parts, books and other items can purchase a booth. (Due to space availability, only automotive- and motorcycle-related items will be allowed.) Vendors will receive a free admission to the Museum for Dec. 4, as well as complimentary parking.

The Great American Celebrity Classic Car Road Rally takes place Thursday, beginning at the Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo, California, and concluding at the Spa Resort Casino in Palm Springs. More than 30 Hollywood celebrities will don racing jump suits and take to the roadway in a 100-mile classic car rally for the Got Kids? charity for abused, abandoned and disabled children and the Palm Springs Angel View Crippled Children’s Foundation. This year’s race will honor the life and career of Tony Curtis. “The Great Race,” Curtis’ 1965 film, is the inspiration for the event. The road rally is held the day before the McCormick Exotic Car Auction, which runs through Sunday and will feature more than 600 cars, trucks and other mint-condition classic vehicles. Auto Museums Offering Free Admission to Veterans

Automotive museums around the country are offering free admission for active and retired military in honor of Veterans Day. The museums listed below are just a few of the many businesses offering discounts for our country’s veterans.
The California Automobile Museum in Sacramento, California is offering free admission for active and retired military and veterans today. The Museum is open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Current exhibitions include “Going Green” and “Lowriders: The Art of Low & Slow.” For more information, go to www.calautomuseum.org.
The AACA Museum, located on Route 39 in Hershey, Pennsylvania, is also offering veterans and active military service members free admission on November 11.
