Alex Xydias, Gale Banks and Others to Be Panelists at Mickey Thompson Panel Discussion

The Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum is inviting the public to a panel discussion celebrating the life and achievements of Mickey Thompson. The panel discussion, entitled “Mickey Thompson: First American to 400 presented by Banks Power”, will take place on Saturday, May 15 from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Museum.

Panelists scheduled to take part in the event include Thompson’s son, Danny; Danny’s mother, Judy Thompson Creach; business partner Alex Xydias; fabricator Tom Jobe of Surfers Top Fuel dragster fame; and Gale Banks of Gale Banks Engineering.

Time Is Running Out to Be Part of Show ‘N Shine at 2010 NHRA Hot Rod Reunion

NHRA Hot Rod Reunion Producer Tony Thacker (right) presents Larry Frederick with the Best Classic Award for his 1962 Chevy Bel Air hardtop during the 2009 Reunion. The car ended up taking home three additional awards, including the inaugural Gary Anderson Attention to Detail Award.

Every year hundreds of cars, ranging from muscle cars, rods and trucks, to classics and customs, drive in from across the country to participate in the annual hot rod pilgrimage to the SoffSeal Show ’N Shine at the 8th Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion. This year’s event takes place June 18-20 at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Contenders are selected from various categories including Classic, Classic Chevy 1955-1957, Custom, Hot Rod, Memory Lane, Muscle Car, Pro Street, Rat Rod, Street Rod, and Trucks.

This year, the competition will be fierce, as the 10 Best of the Best winners, as well as the Top 50 entries from the Reunion, will be invited to the 56th Annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals (Sept. 1-6) at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis.

1932 Muroc Roadster Named Goodguys Street Rod d’Elegance at Del Mar

Jerry Magnuson’s “Magnitude”—a sleek and stylish 1932 Muroc roadster—was crowned the 2010 Goodguys Street Rod d’Elegance last weekend at the 10th Del Mar Nationals in Del Mar, California.

The elegant roadster was hand-formed by Marcel and designed by Chip Foose. It features an LS-1 Chevy with an intercooled Magnacharger (not surprising, being that Jerry Magnuson is the owner and CEO of Magnuson Products!)
