Weekend Car Shows & Events Roundup

Car shows and events are being held across the country this weekend that give you the opportunity to promote your shop, sharpen your skills set and support local organizations, including Goodguys 15th Colorado Nationals and the Capitol Concours d’Elegance. Chevelle-Abration runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Moss-Wright Park in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. The show is open to all 1964–1987 Chevelles, Malibus, El Caminos and other related GM A-bodies that are owned by active members of the American Chevelle Enthusiasts Society (ACES). Non-members are invited to attend but can’t display their vehicles on the show field. The event will feature autocross sponsored by Detroit Speed, pedal car races, spark plug changing, side-by-side bench racing, Hot Wheels racing and seminars. Goodguys presents the 15th Colorado Nationals Friday, Saturday and Sunday at The Ranch Events Complex in Loveland, Colorado. The event will feature over 1,500 rods, customs, classics and muscle cars through model year 1972 competing for awards including Pinkee’s Builder’s Choice Awards and 2012 Truck of the Year Early Finalist. Weekend Car Shows & Events Roundup

Two all-Corvette events will be held this weekend to honor veterans.

This first weekend in November features car shows honoring veterans and supporting important causes, including Vets ‘n Vettes at The National Corvette Museum and the Texas Firewalkers’ Hotrods & Hogs Custom Car Show. Here’s information on those and eight additional shows that provide you with the opportunity to show off your shop’s best work and meet potential customers. Vets ‘n Vettes takes place Thursday, Friday and Saturday at The National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. An annual tradition in its fourth year, Vets ‘n Vettes event offers a number of new ways to enjoy camaraderie with others who have served, according to organizers. Weekend Car Shows & Events Roundup

This weekend, rodders from around the country will descend on Louisville, Kentucky, for the 42nd Annual Street Rod Nationals Plus. If you can’t make it to the Bluegrass State this weekend, there are still plenty of other car shows, cruises and events taking place that will allow you to show off your projects, network with other builders and meet new clients, including those detailed below. The 42nd Annual Street Rod Nationals Plus runs Thursday through Sunday at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Produced by the National Street Rod Association, the event will attract more than 11,000 vintage autos from across the country, including pre-1949 street rods and classics from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. The show will also feature a Builder’s Showcase, seminars, vendors, concessions and live entertainment. For more information, visit www.nsra-usa.com.

The 2011 GM Powertrain St. Catharines Open House and Car Show takes place Friday in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. The event includes a plant tour and show-and-shine. Last year, over 500 GM-powered vehicles registered to compete for trophies at the show, which also features vendors, promotions and barbecue. California Automotive Museum to Offer Model T & Muscle Car Classes

The California Automobile Museum will host three workshops designed to teach both teens and adults about building and maintaining classic cars.

The first workshop, Auto 101, will take place this Saturday, May 14 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Sacramento, California-based museum. The three-hour workshop is designed for students ages 14–16 and an adult buddy. The workshop will include an audio/visual presentation and hands-on demonstrations that will focus on automotive safety, basic maintenance and simple repairs.

The class is $25 per child/adult pair, $20 per pair for museum members. This workshop meets auto-related patch/badge requirements for Boy Scouts (ages 14 and older) and Junior Girl Scouts, according to the museum.

California Automobile Museum Celebrates American Muscle Cars in New Exhibit

 

The California Automobile Museum of Sacramento, California, has just opened a new exhibit celebrating the history of the muscle car.

The “American Muscle” exhibit will feature a variety of muscle cars that include Plymouth Superbird, a Chrysler C-300, and AMC AMX, in addition to Mustangs, Camaros and Chevelles.  According to the museum, “the exhibit celebrates Detroit’s 1960s glory days of speed, sound and style. [It] captures the colorful history of the muscle car.”

The Museum hosted a Show ‘N’ Shine in its parking lot on Saturday, April 8 to celebrate the opening of the exhibit. Prizes were awarded to cars in the categories of “Best Paint,” “Loudest Engine” and “Best in Show.”

The exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until July 10.

The Food Lion AutoFair takes place Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina. The four-day event will, according to show organizers, attract thousands of automobiles. It will also feature collector car auctions, a flea market with more than 10,000 vendor spaces, a manufacturers’ midway, a car corral with more than 1,500 cars for sale, special exhibits, a kids’ zone, fair foods, special guest appearances and more.A Sock Hop will be hosted in the Speedway Club on Saturday evening to benefit Speedway Children’s Charities. Cactus Cruisers AMC hosts the 10thannual Cactus Classic Car Show Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Arizona. The event kicks off Friday night with a barbecue in Glendale. Saturday features a car show in Phoenix open to all AMC vehicles produced between 1950 and 1988, and all vehicles produced by the American Motors Jeep Corp. between 1970 and 1988. That evening is the Scottsdale Pavilions Cruise Night. A no-host breakfast will take place Sunday morning at the Embassy Suites Phoenix North. Auto Museums Offering Free Admission to Veterans

Automotive museums around the country are offering free admission for active and retired military in honor of Veterans Day. The museums listed below are just a few of the many businesses offering discounts for our country’s veterans.

The California Automobile Museum in Sacramento, California is offering free admission for active and retired military and veterans today. The Museum is open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Current exhibitions include “Going Green” and “Lowriders: The Art of Low & Slow.” For more information, go to www.calautomuseum.org.

The AACA Museum, located on Route 39 in Hershey, Pennsylvania, is also offering veterans and active military service members free admission on November 11. The 2010 Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance & Motoring Festivalcontinues through Sunday in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The event is showcasing Chevrolet as the Honored Marque throughout, including at The Car Club Jamboree Saturday, which will source from Chevrolet-specific clubs from the Southeast and will offer special awards for Chevrolets, and the Motoring Midway. There will also be an exhibit on Saturday and Sunday called “Life on the Farm,” which will include a display of Chevrolet trucks and station wagons. The Concours d’Elegance takes place Sunday and will showcase three classes to provide a complete perspective on the history of the Chevrolet from its beginning: Pre-War Full Sized Vehicles, which will range from 1903–1942; Post-War Full Sized Vehicles (1943–1960); and Corvair, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Alex Tainsh Rejoins Parts Unlimited Inc. as Executive Vice President

Parts Unlimited Inc (PUI) has announced the addition of Alex Tainsh to the staff as executive vice president. Tainsh is a 28-year industry veteran, a founding member of ARMO and the current ARMO chair-elect. He started at PUI 28 years ago, and has also worked for Trim Parts and SoffSeal. 

Parts Unlimited Inc. manufactures restoration aftermarket interior components, including window weatherstripping, fully assembled seats and seat foam.
