Weekend Car Shows & Events

The La Habra Lions Club will host the Operation Santa Car Show this Saturday in La Habra, California.

Get into the holiday spirit this weekend by attending a car show that supports a great cause, such as the 25th Annual Christmas Wish Car & Truck Show and the La Habra Operation Santa Custom and Classic Car Show & Toy Drive. The Palm Beach Auction takes place Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. The auction will feature over 350 collector cars up for bid, including a 1958 Desoto Adventurer convertible EFI, a 1957 GMC Palomino Suburban pickup truck, a 1931 Ford Roadster “Land Shark,” a 1936 Packard 12 Dual Cowl Phaeton, a 1949 Studebaker Champion convertible and a 1954 Kaiser Manhattan. The 25th Annual Christmas Wish Car & Truck Show takes place Saturday at Gator Ford in Seffner, Florida. Presented by the High Rollers Car Club, the event will feature awards presentations, live entertainment and race car displays. Attendees are asked to bring pull tabs to be donated to Shriners Burn Center. Proceeds will benefit the Mason Dixon’s Christmas Wish Fund. For more information, click here

The Cruisin’ with the Classics Car Show, held in conjunction with the Christmas on the Bricks Bazaar, 5K Reindeer Run and Christmas Parade, takes place Saturday in Wills Point, Texas. The car show is open to pre-1988 domestic and import cars and trucks, and prizes will be awarded to the top 10 vehicles as judged by participants. La Habra Operation Santa Custom and Classic Car Show & Toy Drive takes place Saturday at Don Steves Autoplex & RV in La Habra, California. Presented by the La Habra Host Lions Club, the event is expected to draw 150 pre-1985 vehicles competing for awards in 20 best-of categories. Attendees are asked to bring a new unwrapped toy for a child age 4–18. The event will also feature vintage dragster demos, antique stationary engine displays, live entertainment, drawings, vendors, concessions and a visit from Santa Claus. Thanksgiving Weekend Car Shows & Events Roundup

Take a break from the turkey and the shopping frenzy to attend one of the many car shows being held around the country, like Goodguys 1st Fall Del Mar Nationals or the O’Reilly Auto Parts AutoRama Houston. The O’Reilly Auto Parts AutoRama takes place Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston. The event will showcase hot rods and muscle cars from throughout the Houston region, as well as special feature cars like the 2011 Camaro Transformers Special Edition, which was custom-built for the filming of “Transformers 3″. Over $40,000 in cash, merchandise and trophies will be presented in categories including Best Rod, Best Truck and Best Custom. For more information, click here.  

The Daytona Turkey Run takes place Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. The event will feature show cars, a swap meet, a car corral, crafts and antiques and concessions. The car show is open to American-made street rods, customs, antiques and muscle cars through 1979. Foreign and domestic exotics, and late-model vehicles, will be displayed on a limited basis. Whether your ideal weekend involves cruising along coastal highways or crunching through streets covered with autumn leaves, the right car show for you is taking place this weekend, such as the 15th Annual Cruisin’ the Coast, which is winding its way along Mississippi’s Gulf Coast, or the 8th Annual One Room School Car Show, taking place at an Ohio dairy that’s also hosting haunted wagon rides. The 15th Annual Cruisin’ the Coast continues through Sunday along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The 2011 Long Beach Motorama takes place this weekend in Long Beach, California.

Goodguys presents the 19th Lone Star Nationals Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas. The event will feature over 1,500 rods, customs, classics, muscle cars and trucks through 1972 competing for awards including 2011 Muscle Car of the Year Finalist and the Davis’ Builder’s Choice Awards. The Lone Star Nationals will also feature a track cruise, Goodguys Autocross, vendor and manufacturer exhibits, a swap meet, a cars-for-sale corral, and a model car and pedal car show. The Long Beach Motorama takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, California. The event is open to all American-made pre-1969 vehicles, and will highlight notable customs, rods and motorcycles. The event will feature a recreation of the Lions Drag Strip, the façade of Barris Kustom City and store front of Ed “Big Daddy” Roth’s shop, all of which will house vehicles and memorabilia. Numerous trophies will be presented, including the new Diamond Cup Championship, a perpetual-based trophy specifically created for the coach-built-minded builder and owner, and the Legend of Motorsports Special Recognition award, which honors those individuals that have spent 30 years or more of their lives fostering this sport. Slideshow: Top 15 Radical Rides of the 2011 L.A. Roadster Show

The L.A. Roadster Show is one of Southern California’s largest and most-anticipated events each year. Put on by the L.A. Roadsters Car Club, the Roadster Show presents one of the largest collections of pristine roadsters to be assembled in one place, as well as a swap meet, vendor displays and more.

The 47th Annual L.A. Roadster Show took place this year over the Father’s Day weekend at the Fairplex in Pomona, California. It featured hundreds of custom and famous roadsters brought from all over the country.

Here are just a few of the unique roadsters that were featured at last weekend’s show. Special thanks to Jay Christiansen for the use his photos. He and his father, Terry, were at the show displaying a car for the first time. 

“[It was] a dream come true for my dad and I,” Jay said of getting to display their 1933 Ford Phaeton at the show.

How to Get a Vanity License Plate for a Classic Car

Last week’s Route 66 Cruisein Santa Clarita, California, brought out a great collection of classic cars and trucks. The cruise, held monthly in the parking lot of the Route 66 Grill, is known to local hot rodders as the place to be on the second Saturday of every month.

One thing that many of the cars at the cruise had in common was a catchy and unique vanity license plate. Vanity plates are a great way to provide additional personality to a classic car or truck.

The Upstate NY Thunderbird Club’s Annual Spring Fever 2011 takes place Friday and Saturday in Kingston, New York. The event kicks off Friday with a cruise-in at a 1950s-style diner. Saturday will feature a driving tour across the Hudson River to tour the Vanderbilt mansion, followed by lunch, a tour of the Roosevelt home, a drive back across the Hudson, and a buffet dinner. The 17th Annual Muckenthaler Motor Car Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday in Fullerton, California. Hot Rods & Customs takes place Saturday, featuring a car show, live entertainment, food and wine. The Concours d’Elegance takes place Sunday with a horseless carriage tour and live performances. The original Batmobile will be displayed Saturday and Sunday, with Burt Ward, TV’s “Robin,” making an appearance. NSRA presents the Southwest Street Rod Nationals Plus Thursday Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the State Fair Park in Oklahoma City. Registration opens Thursday and is followed by a cruise-in during the evening. Friday, Saturday and Sunday will feature commercial exhibits, special vehicle displays, seminars, safety inspections and a swap meet. Friday will also includes the Rodders’ Parade and a cruise-in. The 19th Annual Open Car Show takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Boerne, Texas. The “Get Your Kicks on Route 66 Dinner” takes place Friday night and features a live band. Activities scheduled for Saturday include the car show, awards presentation, raffle drawings and a happy hour/dinner on Saturday night. The Food Lion AutoFair takes place Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina. The four-day event will, according to show organizers, attract thousands of automobiles. It will also feature collector car auctions, a flea market with more than 10,000 vendor spaces, a manufacturers’ midway, a car corral with more than 1,500 cars for sale, special exhibits, a kids’ zone, fair foods, special guest appearances and more.A Sock Hop will be hosted in the Speedway Club on Saturday evening to benefit Speedway Children’s Charities. Cactus Cruisers AMC hosts the 10thannual Cactus Classic Car Show Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Arizona. The event kicks off Friday night with a barbecue in Glendale. Saturday features a car show in Phoenix open to all AMC vehicles produced between 1950 and 1988, and all vehicles produced by the American Motors Jeep Corp. between 1970 and 1988. That evening is the Scottsdale Pavilions Cruise Night. A no-host breakfast will take place Sunday morning at the Embassy Suites Phoenix North.
