Editor’s Corner: Maloof Racing Engines’ Car Show Supports a Good Cause

Maloof Racing Engines in San Gabriel, California, played host to Autobooks-Aerobooks Car Night last Thursday night. The event provided the shop the opportunity to not only show off its customers’ rides, but also promote its Winning at the Race of Life charity event that will be held on Nov. 12. At the upcoming event, which will raise money to feed the poor and homeless, as well as provide counseling programs for young adults in need, Maloof Racing Engines will raffle off a 1969 Chevelle featuring a 383-c.i. stroker delivering 540 horsepower and 565 lbs./ft. of torque that was built at the shop and displayed during Thursday’s show.

The shop and the charity are both operated by Sammy Maloof, a Hollywood stunt driver whose credits include “Gone in 60 Seconds” and “Transporter 2,” and an engine builder with more than 30 years’ experience. Maloof started the charity Winning at the Race of Life 11 years ago and hosts events throughout Los Angeles providing outreach services and doing stunt driving demonstrations.

Labor Day Weekend Car Shows & Events Roundup

Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer. Historic Festival 29 takes place Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday at Lime Rock in Lakeville, Colorado. The event will feature a special display of vintage vehicles on loan from the Simeone Foundation Museum in Philadelphia that will include a 1959 Aston Martin DBR1, a 1954 Jaguar D Type, an Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Spyder and a 1934 MG K3. Goodguys presents the 10th Mid-Western Nationals Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas. The event will welcome over 2,000 rods, customs, classic, street machines, muscle cars and trucks through 1972 competing for awards including 2011 Muscle Car of the Year Finalist and 2011 Custom Rod of the Year Finalist. The show will also feature vendor and manufacturer exhibits, a swap meet, a cars-for-sale corral, a model and pedal car show, a special track cruise and Richard Petty ride alongs. All years of American-made or powered cars and trucks are welcomed to the Super Sunday Get-Together for a track cruise, autocross and to compete for special awards. New Car Show & Parade to Take Place After the SEMA Show

SEMA announced that a car show and parade have been added to the events lineup for the 2011 SEMA Show.

“When the Show ends at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, magic happens as the display vehicles are driven out of the Las Vegas Convention Center,” show organizers said in a statement. “Over the years, this exodus has become an unofficial parade—an extension of the Show that hundreds of industry professionals and the people of Las Vegas line the streets to witness.”

Now an official event, the parade will also include awards, giveaways, entertainment and enhanced seating for those who want to view the exit of the vehicles.

After the parade, a car show will be held in the Gold Lot across from the Convention Center. Highlights of this show will include VIP interviews, special sponsor awards, showstoppers and commentary from host Joe Sebergandio.

The Food Lion AutoFair takes place Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina. The four-day event is expected to attract more than 100,000 visitors and will feature a car show, vendors, a car corral and a collector car auction. Featured vehicle exhibits at the show include a 100th anniversary of Chevrolet display, movie and television vehicles, and the world’s lowest street-legal vehicle. Autobooks-Aerobooks Car Night takes place Thursday at Maloof Racing Engines in San Gabriel, California. Car show attendees can get tech advice from the engine shop’s build team during the event, which will also feature music and food. Owner Sammy Maloof is also a stuntman who’s worked on films including “Mission Impossible 4″ and he will be giving attendees rides in one of his stunt cars. Rare Custom Muscle Cars to Be Displayed at Playboy Mansion Event

Muscle cars will once again grace the lawn of the Playboy Mansion in October.

A list of the vehicles that will be on display at the annual Muscle Cars at the Mansion, which takes place Oct. 15 at the Playboy Mansion, has been released by event organizers. This year’s event will feature 28 unique custom cars and 15 customized motorcycles.

A sleek, two-seat 1959 Imperial Speedster concept car built by Pfaff Designs will be one of the cars on display on the mansion’s lawn. The speedster features a custom tube-built chassis by Schwartz Performancewith a 6.1 Hemi motor and Dodge Viper independent rear suspension, and took over 10,000 hours to build.

Also scheduled to be displayed are a Playboy-pink 1967 Ford Mustang signed by the 1967 Playmate of the Year, a fully restored 1970 Boss 302, a 1965 Shelby Cobra once driven by Carroll Shelby, a rare automatic 1969 Pontiac Trans Am convertible (one of eight ever produced), the 1970 Olds Official Indy Pace Car and many more.

“This event will deliver a ‘Bucket List’ experience for the automotive community,” Lisa Leathery, event manager, said. “Great examples of American automotive muscle and custom bikes will be displayed on the lawn of Hugh Hefner.”

The 42nd Annual Street Rod Nationals Plus runs Thursday through Sunday at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Produced by the National Street Rod Association, the event will attract more than 11,000 vintage autos from across the country, including pre-1949 street rods and classics from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Weekend Car Shows & Events Roundup

Rare and exotic classic cars will be on display at the 2011 Concours d'Elegance of America, which takes place this weekend in Plymouth, Michigan.

A variety of car shows, cruises and other car events are taking place throughout the United States and Canada this weekend. Here’s information on nine such events, including the Concours d’Elegance of America, The Detroit Tigers Classic Car Show and the 10th Annual Kars Under the K Show & Shine. The 2011 Concours d’Elegance of America takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at The Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth, Michigan. Saturday features the American Speed open house, Hagerty car valuation seminar, a design seminar, a mini VIP tour of Ilmor Engineering, the RM Vintage Motor Car Auction and nighttime gala.
