Ron Covell to Present New Metal Shaping Seminars in February

Trick Tools has announced that metal shaping expert Ron Covell will host two metal shaping seminars at its Pella, Iowa, facility in late February. The two “Extreme Metal Shaping” seminars will be held on Saturday, February 25 and Sunday, February 26. Attendees have the option to attend both seminars, or only one.

For both workshops, Covell will be building a piece that is similar to a 1936 Ford rear fender, as well as a flush-fitting fender skirt.

During the Saturday class, Covell will demonstrate how to cut out and shape each piece and will start to weld the panels together. The Sunday class will cover the rest of the welding process, as well as how to smooth the fender. He will also demonstrate how to do edge work and build the flush-fit skirt for the fender.

New Business Seminars to Be Offered at 2012 HRR Trade Show

Attendees of the 2012 Hotrod & Restoration Trade Show will have the opportunity to take advantage of a full morning of informative business seminars designed to help you run your small business. All of the seminars are free to attend.

On Saturday morning, ARMO will be hosting four business seminars to teach attendees how to market and run their businesses more efficiently. The seminars will be organized into two time slots.

The first seminar, The Business of Small Business, will take place from 8 a.m.–9:00 a.m. and will cover ways to take your business to the next level.

The Marketing Your Small Business 101 panel will also take place from 8 a.m.–9 a.m. During this time, industry experts including Eric Saltrick of Steele Rubber and Tyler Tanaka of CIE Studios will answer questions about how to utilize free (or almost free) Internet tools when marketing your small business. The panel will be moderated by Laura Bergan of American Collectors Insurance.

SEMA Accepting Applications for 2012 Scholarship Program

SEMA has announced that it’s now accepting applications for the 2012 SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund provides scholarships ranging from $1,000–4,000 to students looking to further their education in the automotive industry.

The fund started in 1984 and has since awarded more than $1.5 million in financial awards to more than 600 students that are studying for careers in the automotive aftermarket or related fields.

“Paying for a high-quality education is a challenge for many people, particularly in today’s tough economy,” said Jamie Eriksen, SEMA education director. “SEMA is pleased to play a part in helping students prepare for careers in our industry. The specialty-equipment industry is innovative, dynamic and holds many opportunities for the next generation.”

In order to be eligible for a SEMA Memorial Scholarship, students must apply, provide college transcripts and letters of recommendation. The scholarship is a one-time award that doesn’t have to be paid back, according to SEMA. Awards are granted to eligible applicants based on academic achievements, work experience, community involvement, essay content and recommendations.

California Automotive Museum to Offer Model T & Muscle Car Classes

The California Automobile Museum will host three workshops designed to teach both teens and adults about building and maintaining classic cars.

The first workshop, Auto 101, will take place this Saturday, May 14 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Sacramento, California-based museum. The three-hour workshop is designed for students ages 14–16 and an adult buddy. The workshop will include an audio/visual presentation and hands-on demonstrations that will focus on automotive safety, basic maintenance and simple repairs.

The class is $25 per child/adult pair, $20 per pair for museum members. This workshop meets auto-related patch/badge requirements for Boy Scouts (ages 14 and older) and Junior Girl Scouts, according to the museum.

The Hotrod & Restoration Trade Show is only two weeks away. One of the most highly anticipated events taking place during the show is the Education & Training Day on Thursday, March 17 in Indianapolis. Nearly 40 of the industry’s leading manufacturers will be hosting seminars on everything from new products to tips for running a small business.

Stainless Steel Brakes Corp. (SSBC) will present a seminar designed to educate attendees on the company’s performance brake upgrade products and accessories. Techs from SSBC will be on-hand to discuss and answer questions regarding the company’s product lines, as well as to offer tips to increase your shop’s brake sales. SSBC’s seminar will take place during the first session, from 8-9 a.m.

FAST Fuel Injection Training Course to Coincide with 2011 HRR Trade Show in Indy

FAST has announced that it will once again team up with the EFI University of Temecula, California, to hold a series of courses that will cover the fundamentals of set-up and tuning procedures of the FAST XFI and XFI 2.0 Fuel Injection Systems.

Four classes are planned for 2011, with the first one taking place on Wednesday, March 16, the day before the HRR Trade Show’s Education & Training Day, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Wingate Hotel in Indianapolis.

“For convenience, this first class is scheduled to coincide with the Hotrod & Restoration Trade Show,” representatives from FAST said in a press release. The company will also be exhibiting at the show in the Comp Performance Group’s booth (No. 339).

HRR Trade Show Seminar Presenter Dick Dixon to Explain ‘The Art of Selling’

The 2011 Hotrod & Restoration Trade Show will feature two days of educational seminars and workshops, in addition to two days on the trade show floor. While Thursday is the dedicated Education & Training Day, Saturday, March 19, will also bring education opportunities via ARMO’s Business Seminar sessions.

Dick Dixon, director of the International Motorsports Alliance and a professor of automotive management and marketing at California State University, San Bernardino, will be presenting “The Art of Selling” from 8-9 a.m. This seminar will touch on many important aspects of making a sale, including how to develop relationships within the industry and better communicate with your customers.

This will be the second seminar that Dixon will be putting on at the HRR Trade Show. He presented a sales seminar at the 2010 show.

“I’m honored to be a part of this trade show,” Dixon said. “This show is like a second home to me. I’m looking forward to having a lot of fun with the attendees.”

Dixon answered a few questions about his upcoming seminar, giving attendees some insight on what they can expect.

HRR Trade Show to Open Doors to Local Technical College Students

In an effort to promote the “future of the industry,” the Hotrod & Restoration Trade Show will be inviting students from four local-area technical colleges to attend the show on Saturday afternoon.

Students from Cincinnati State Technical and Community College in Cincinnati, the University of Northwest Ohio College of Technologies, John A. Logan College in Carterville, Illinois, and Rend Lake College in Ina, Illinois, will be allowed to walk the show floor and meet with the exhibitors from noon until 3 p.m. on Saturday. These students have a special interest in classic cars and are eager to learn about the industry’s new products and services.

ARMO to Hold Long-Range Planning Meeting at HRR Trade Show

ARMO has announced that it will hold its Long-Range Planning (LRP) Meeting on Wednesday, March 16, in conjunction with the 2011 Hotrod & Restoration Trade Show in Indianapolis.

“Since so many ARMO members already attend this event, we are hoping to see a strong turnout for the Long Range Planning meeting,” ARMO said in a statement on its website.

The meeting will be help at the Indiana Convention Center.

A meeting notice will be mailed and emailed to ARMO members. Those wishing to attend should R.S.V.P. to Gina Ledesma at ginal@sema.org.
